The summer months are upon us and with the sunshine comes vacations, pleasant weather, and, for many, a difficulty with staying productive.
Whether you are managing a team or are just looking to increase your own productivity, here are some pointers to make sure you stay on top of your to-do list.
Multitasking Looks Good On Paper But…
Just because you feel productive when you’re doing 5 tasks at once, it doesn’t mean you are. If you’re trying to do multiple things simultaneously, you often don’t get much of anything accomplished. Instead, try to be a mono-tasker and concentrate on knocking out your tasks one-by-one by giving each project your entire attention.
Give Yourself Breaks (A Plus if You Can Get Moving)
If you’ve had to re-read any sentences in this so far, it may be time for you to get up and move around. Just a 5 minute walk can boost your mood and the increased blood flow will freshen your mind.
Don’t be a Perfectionist
Getting caught up on making something perfect that is already acceptable can put a damper on a strong workflow. In fact, perfectionism can be a main contributor to procrastination according to The Harvard Business Review. One way to combat perfectionism is to work on recognizing the point of diminishing returns when working on a task. Remember, just getting something done, and done on time, can be a worthy goal.
Track Your Time on the Task
Although typically associated with teams, keeping track of your own individual time on a task can be extremely beneficial. Not only can this lead to a sense of accomplishment when looking back upon a day, this is also a top technique for keeping yourself accountable and avoiding burnout.
