A computer specialist for a large university was found five days after suffering a stroke in his locked office. He was reported missing by a co-worker after not showing up for a meeting. A university spokesman said the man was found on Wednesday, after having the stroke on Friday before a long weekend. The man’s mother reported that he lived alone, and no one really checked on him regularly. The University is looking into a program to check offices periodically, a request the man’s mother made. This story was reported on www.myfoxorlando.com.
Most companies have a policy on how they track company assets. Whether it is computer equipment to cans of colas, usually everything in the office is accounted for. Same should be true of your biggest and best assets…your employees. In a small office, it is not that hard to do, but some sort of buddy system should be in place. In larger offices, with large square footage, multiple floors or multiple buildings, a more intensive plan should be implemented.
