Winter is officially in full swing and the temperature may not be the only thing dipping. Studies have shown that workers’ productivity and overall morale tend to dip in the winter months.

Some find it hard to hit the ground running after an extended holiday period so it’s not surprising to see that January and February are consistently the least productive months of the year.

Here are a few ways to battle the winter blues.

Celebrate Company Wins

Although the start of the year is often when goal-setting and planning take place, don’t forget to reflect on the positives from the year before. Acknowledge your departments or even individuals on their accomplishments as Q4 can be a whirlwind of activity. Use this as an opportunity to re-energize and motivate your employees and set the tone for the new year.

Reevaluate and Recommit to Best Practices

New year resolutions don’t only have to be personal so take the opportunity to take a step back and reevaluate different aspects of your workplace’s day-to-day. Could that meeting have been an email? Did the entire team have to be on this call? Employees have been solely on virtual conferences during the pandemic and a study shows that 89% of workers agree they could benefit from at least one day free of scheduled calls and meetings.

Mix Personal And Work Goals In the Office

One way to take advantage of the “New Year New Me” mentality is to mix work goals with personal goals to help build workplace camaraderie. Whether it’s paying off a car, working on fitness, or simply drinking more water, sharing goals between coworkers can help them connect on a personal level on things outside of the office environment.

Kick Off A Company Wide Project for Q1

Kicking off a company-wide project early in the year can help boost productivity early and keep team members engaged. Do make sure to keep the work manageable so as to not overwhelm your team within the first few months of 2022.

Hopefully these tips can help you navigate the gray winter days ahead and ensure a good start to 2022.
